In the last quarter of the 6th century, monk Seng An Daoyi undertook an epic effort of carving passages of Buddhist sutra on granites hills, cliff faces, natural boulders against the threat of religious persecution and apocalyptic danger. At Mount Tai, the 3000 characters passage from the Diamond Sutra was carved.
